Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on what is perceived as the country's loss; however, DeLay's pronouncements should not be so shocking to true conservatives in the electorate.

The GOP shows its stripes by supporting "main stream" candidates like George W. Bush (a big-government spender in the mold of his father), Bob Dole and virtually every Republican member in the Senate. The Stupid Party -- via Newtie & the Houseboys -- revealed the linguini in its backbone during the '93 budget "crisis" by caving to Clinton, back-room dealing for perks & silence, and failing to keep most of the promises made during the '92 election cycle.

These people first are politicians concerned primarily with political survival; principle is waaaay down on the list. Theirs are not jobs intended to be careers, so it is up to us to engage them at the ballot box and throw them out of office.

DeLay's pronouncement is reprehensible and unforgivable, but the silence from the rest of the GOP leadership tells us everything we need to know about where their mindset is, too.

RESPONSE:

I'm only surprised by his honesty that he's abandoned any pretense of fiscal conservativism.
