The Left on Katrina: Well they were Red States Anyway

In this time of national crisis, it is once again shown that there are those who instead of united to help are using the event to push their ideologies and their hate. I present this unfiltered defecation on the United States from the Left.

"And nothing about the president's demeanor yesterday - which seemed casual to the point of carelessness - suggested that he understood the depth of the current crisis." New York Times Lead Editorial – 9/1/01 (A day after saying "But this seems like the wrong moment to dwell on fault-finding")

"Now we are all learning what it’s like to reap the whirlwind of fossil fuel dependence which Barbour and his cronies have encouraged. Our destructive addiction has given us a catastrophic war in the Middle East and--now--Katrina is giving our nation a glimpse of the climate chaos we are bequeathing our children." Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Bush made the hurricanes! We'll skip past Prof. Gray and Prof. Emanuel who are experts in the field who say this is crap.)

"Two things happened in one day that tell much about the abysmal failure of the Bush administration to get a handle on poverty in America. The first was the tragic and disgraceful shots of hordes of New Orleans residents scurrying down the city’s Hurricane ravaged streets with their arms loaded with food, clothes, appliances, and in some cases guns, that they looted from stores and shops." Earl Hutchinson. (Now Bush is responsible for those who choose a life of crime).

"The president's 35-minute Air Force One flyover of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama was the perfect metaphor for his entire presidency: detached, disconnected, and disengaged. Preferring to take in America's suffering -- whether caused by the war in Iraq or Hurricane Katrina -- from a distance. In this case, 2,500 feet." Arianna Huffington (As opposed to Arianna watching the destruction from a distance of 2500 miles).

"OK, you billionaires who have taken advantage of the very unchristian greed fest that is the hallmark of the Bush administration, it's time to step up and give some of that money back. CEO's should pony up and pay for the recovery of New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi, and the rest of the hurricane-devastated Deep South." Robert Smith on why he can't afford to help because he has to pay for his son's education at Rice.

So sickening, and yet so... predictable. Every disgraceful act of the Left in this country, in the world, is... predictable.

The title of this post implies that the left are satisfied with suffering in the Red States.

It is notable that not a single one of the quotes you cite suggests anything of the kind. But you thought you'd say that they did anyway. Who's pushing hate here exactly?

None of the people quoted are scorning the victims - unlike yourself, when you hint that those raiding any source of food and dry clothing they can find, often to keep their families alive, are those who "choose a life of crime". (Even the police in New Orleans are tolerating this sort of 'crime')

If you think the people you have quoted are pushing ideologies of hate because they go so far as to criticise the President (how shocking in a free society!), why not listen to what people in New Orleans are saying right now. A lot of them are a lot angrier than the New York Times editorial board.

Lordy--you righties--always racing to point out others faults yet YOUR shortsighted policies are why we're in such a horrific mess in this country today. From Iraq to tax cuts to your stupid denial of global warming to budget gutting for projects like the New Orleans levees, your ignorance, shortsightedness, arrogance and hatemongering are all coming under the glaring light of truth. We're watching the Republican party crumble into the dustbin of history right now and I for one couldn't be happier.
It's just too bad so many have to suffer as a result of the supercilious stupidity of people like you.
But--the masses are seeing first-hand just how pathetic and self-serving all of you are--and your crowing about the generous "donations" from companies that have been gouging the American people for years, hiding their money off shore to avoid paying taxes and sending our jobs overseas to cheaper labor is simply laughable.
You'd be much more believable if oil company profits weren't at record highs--every quarter for years, now.
Yes indeed, the real patriotic Americans are rapidly catching on to all of your disgusting tactics and the end of your traitorous, war profiteering, hatemongering, racist, homophobic fascism is coming fast!
Kisses and hugs to all of you—cuz you're all gonna need em, ya treasonaous, anti-American fascists.

Those comments don't seem to be from people who "hate" America--they question our dependency on fossil fuels, a president who's out of touch (don't forget: his administration cut funding for levees earlier this year), and the incompetance of the guy who is running FEMA. I agree with all of those assessments. (The truth hurts, eh?)

Oh, and don't even think to question MY patriotism...I gave 9 years of my life to our military--ACTIVELY defending our country. Something you chicken hawk neocons don't have the guts to do. Let's face it, if you were REAL patriots, you would have run down to your local recruiting office and enlisted. Instead, you're sitting on your *** pontificating about others' patriotism. Pathetic.

RESPONSE:

And you lecture me while you hide behind anonymity.

You know what pisses me off... when people criticize your points and you say they are questioning your patriotism. No one is questioning your patriotism, they are questioning your logic and compassion. As I recall the word patriotism isn't in any on my posts on this site. Also, notice that little milblogs thing, I'm IN the military.

It wasn't until this comment that I questioned anyone's patriotism, but now I question yours. Thanks for your 9 years, but it's obvious your seething disdain for your fellow Americans and inability to make intelligent comments show that you are anything but American. You're an elitist snob. That's European.
