Wictory Wednesday Presents Thelma Drake
This week, Wictory Wednesday presents Thelma Drake for US Congress for the Second District of Virginia. Representative Drake is running for reelection for her second term in the Congress and is running against MoveOn backed candidate Phillip Kellam. Polls indicate this will be a tight race, and from the amount of money being poured in by MoveOn, a race of importance in 2006.
Rep. Drake has been a supporter of victory in Iraq, rejecting calls to surrender to terrorists and leave the region in chaos. By providing support that the troops need, it gives the military and administration the latitude needed to do the hard work of reconstruction.
Also a supporter of free trade, Rep. Drake has voted to create a free trade zone in South America to further economic development that is beneficial to all parties. Many protectionists keep railing against the trade deficit without realizing that the trade deficit does more for other countries developing their economies than humanitarian aid could ever do.
Lastly, in the light of the recent debate on immigration, Rep. Drake gets it. Regulating the flow of immigrants is not xenophobia, it is common sense. It is one thing to be generous in allowing immigrants to come here to build a better life. It is another to have no real border and allow anyone, including terrorists, free reign across the border. Immigration is healthy for a county, unregulated flaunting of a border is not.
Please consider supporting Thelma Drake in her race for reelection.

Rush Limbaugh found with Viagara, Left Triumphant
Apparently CBS in Florida reported that Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs... they found Viagara, and I'm sure the lefty blogs are triumphant and they'll be spouting dick jokes for weeks.
What a wonderful bottom-dwelling media we have.

LGBT Celebrates Being Called Mentally Ill?
Remember Love In Action? The recipient of the wrath of the LGBT because of a kid's blog postings before he even got to the camp? Well, they chalked up a victory today. From the article:
The state inspected two facilities in Memphis on Aug. 19 and determined Love In Action International Inc. was providing housing, meals and personal care for mentally ill patients without a license, according to a subsequent letter to the organization from the Department of Mental Health.
The basis for the action of the state was that this place had to be licensed to treat mentally ill people. Ummm, do they realize that the state basically just called all gay people mentally ill? Do they know that's what they are embracing so they can make their point?
The decision was not based on the concept of treating gay people so that they are straight, or even if such a thing is possible, but solely that they needed a license which I imagine can't be too hard to correct and open back up. I was just amused that the attack on this place ended up embracing something that I can't imagine they'd accept, that gayness is mental illness.

Unions Have to Pay People to Protest Walmart
Picketers for Hire: The strange business of protesting jobs that may be better than yours
The Unions pay people $6/hr to protest the Walmart and provide no benefits while they sit out in the sun. Walmart pays more, offers benefits, and has air conditioning inside.
Does anyone else see this as silly that they have to PAY people to protest a Walmart?
No one cares.

What is it with Democrats who like to Dance on the Dead?
Robert Kennedy Jr. today demonstrated why the Kennedy family has gone all down hill since JFK. He suggests on the HuffPo that Hurricane Katrina was caused by the Mississippi Governor's "anti-kyoto" and "anti-environmental" stances. The tone is almost giddy that this leftist can link dead bodies in some religious way to a Republican. We'll have to wait a few more weeks for their to be protests at their graves organized by Code Pink.
This is the problem with the Democratic party and the left in general, they can't simply try to make a point and convince people. What they do instead is gloat on any bad news and link it to some Republican policy. Tsunamis; Republicans fault. Hurricanes; Republicans fault. Train bombing in Spain; Republicans fault. Hollywood's deplorable movies; Republicans fault.
You ever wonder why they keep losing elections? They're still blaming Bush for every problem that comes along and then systematically ignoring all the good news out there. (See Good News from Iraq, or increased home ownership, and the list goes on).
Right now more and more people are seeing the Democrats and the Left for what they are, despicable elitists who have a sneering disdain for the "common man" and all things American. They could care less about America, the poor, the hungry, they just want power and they're pissed off at the voters for not giving it to them. This is just the latest episode of their downfall.

More AP Bias
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former state senator pleaded guilty to mail fraud Thursday and admitted accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars from three companies that had an interest in bills before the General Assembly.
This was the header to an AP article just recently that hit the wire. No where in it does it indicate that this guy was a Democrat. You had to go to an old article by the Boston.com.
AP, dropping the ball again when it is their boys that are caught up in corruption.

Anti-War Protestors Tormenting Iraq War Wounded
CNSNews has broken the story on anti-war protesters outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. This is the facility where those with significant injuries are sent to from the battlefield. They are there holding up signs such as "Maimed for Lies" and "Enlist here and die for Halliburton". The organization organizing this is Code Pink, the same organization that has funded terrorists with the apparent knowledge of Rep. Waxman.
For the most part the anti-war crowd doesn't see a problem with this, mostly because it garners attention which is what they are seeking. They think by kicking around a few wounded soldiers that they'll be able to change people's minds about the war. They also seem to think that the wounded are oblivious to the debate on the Iraq war and for that matter the rest of the nation. This war has been debated 24x7 since about 14 months before we went in to Iraq. The rush to war included having the Army camp out for months in Kuwait waiting for the order and turning away Iraqis who wanted to surrender.
Everyone knows what the war has cost because the press covers it endlessly. These protesters are looking for more than that, they want some gimmick, some stunt that will convince people because all of their arguments have been rejected or disproved. They need the one mother of a slain soldier in Crawford and conveniently ignore the approximately 1900 other mothers who aren't protesting and do support the troops. They aren't covering that the insurgency is over and the remainder of fighting is mostly people from Iran and Syria and the targets are Iraqis.
That brings us to Walter Reed where to point is precisely to irritate people and get press. Should the protest somewhere else? Absolutely and they know it. If the Pentagon has to sneak people into Walter Reed it is because of those protesters trying to dance all over the body in celebration that they have another club to try to go after the President with. In closing, I have to wonder what these people do for a living because I don't have time to run out to a VA hospital and be kicking around wounded soldiers for fun.

Something that the Left AND the Right can Agree On (and be outraged by)
Scientists make test-tube meat.
PETA and the anti-science anti-GMO crowd won't stand for this. Us meat-eaters want our cow. A steak should be gotten legitimately or not at all.

Dems Come Up Short in Ohio
Hackett (the Democratic candidate) lost in Ohio's special runoff race for the House seat that was recently vacated. It was a traditional Republican district where Bush carried 64% in '04. Hackett was 48%. You can read the DNC's take here about how this "bellwether" is predicting a Democrat insurgence in the '06 and '08 elections. I think it's important to take a look at how Hackett ran his campaign first. You can see Hackett's TV ad here.
Note that he doesn't identify his party, he doesn't identify issues, and he uses President Bush in his ad. The wonks pointed out a lot of the garbage his said in public and where he stands on the issues but most voters are not wonks. They make up their decision, in part, on ads and in Hackett's ad; he relied on cheap tricks to try to mislead voters. He may support gun rights, but it takes more than one issue to make a conservative or a liberal. Remember, there are pro-choice conservatives and pro-life liberals.
This "bellwether" race has shown one way the Democrats can win or get close in races. They have to pretend to be Republicans and conservatives. When they run on their own platforms, they will lose.
